Official: Binh Duong to Build Elevated Urban Railway Connecting to Ho Chi Minh City
[CafeLand] The Urban Railway Line No. 2 from Thu Dau Mot City to Ho Chi Minh City is nearly 22 km long, with two options: elevated or underground. Based on the estimated investment capital, Binh Duong province has chosen to build the elevated urban railway to save more than 15,000 billion VND.
Recently, Mr. Vo Van Minh, Chairman of Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee, chaired a meeting to hear the pre-feasibility study report for Urban Railway Line No. 2 from Thu Dau Mot City to Ho Chi Minh City.
This Urban Railway Line No. 2 starts by connecting to the S5 station of Line No. 1 located in Phu My Ward (Thu Dau Mot City); the endpoint is in Vinh Phu Ward (Thuan An City), connecting to the extended Line No. 3 of Ho Chi Minh City at Hiep Binh Phuoc Ward (Thu Duc City).
The total length of the line is nearly 22 km. It is expected to have about 13 stations, including 1 elevated station, 12 underground stations, and 1 depot (planned to share the depot with Line No. 1 in Phu Chanh Ward (Tan Uyen City, Binh Duong) or share with Line No. 3 of Ho Chi Minh City at Hiep Binh Phuoc Ward (Thu Duc City).
Binh Duong reviews the option for Urban Railway Line No. 2 from Thu Dau Mot City to Ho Chi Minh City
Urban Railway Line No. 2 in Binh Duong will pass through Thu Dau Mot City and Thuan An City; it is designed to handle a capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 passengers per direction per hour, connecting Thu Dau Mot City to Ho Chi Minh City and other urban areas along the railway line.
Regarding the investment capital, the related agencies have proposed two options:

Option 1: Elevated construction, with an estimated capital of over 53,000 billion VND.

Option 2: Underground construction, with an estimated capital of over 68,500 billion VND.
Route direction of Metro Line 2 from Thu Dau Mot City to Ho Chi Minh City
After review, Mr. Vo Van Minh, Chairman of Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee, gave specific comments on the route direction, longitudinal profile options, and station locations through Thu Dau Mot City and Thuan An City.
Regarding the investment capital, the Chairman agreed with Option 1, which is the elevated route.
The provincial leadership believes this is the optimal option, helping save a significant amount of capital (more than 15,000 billion VND).
Accordingly, the Binh Duong Provincial People’s Committee assigned departments to coordinate with localities and consulting units to urgently provide data and complete the report content for the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Committee to seek opinions from the Provincial Party Committee Standing Board.
It is known that Urban Railway Line No. 2 from Thu Dau Mot City (Binh Duong) to Ho Chi Minh City plays a role in connecting the centers of Thu Dau Mot and Ho Chi Minh City along National Highway 13. This railway line is expected to contribute to reducing traffic congestion, especially when Binh Duong merges with Ho Chi Minh City, enhancing smooth connectivity and promoting socio-economic development of the new Ho Chi Minh City after the merger.
