Binh Duong Organizes 2025 Community Swimming Campaign for Child Drowning Prevention at EcoLakes My Phuoc

On the morning of May 16, 2025, at the EcoLakes My Phuoc Eco-township (Thoi Hoa Ward, Ben Cat City, Binh Duong Province), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Duong Province, in coordination with the People’s Committee of Ben Cat City, organized the launching ceremony of the 2025 Public Swimming Exercise Campaign for Drowning Prevention Among Children.

Attending the launching ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Khanh Toan – Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs; Mr. Nguyen Phu Yen – Chairman of the Provincial Aquatic Sports Federation; Ms. Tran Thi Thao – Vice Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Ben Cat City; Mr. Do Van Toan – Head of the Department of Sports Management, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Phan Van Lam – Director of the Provincial Center for Sports Training and Competition; Mr. Nguyen Quang Duc – Head of the Department of Child Affairs and Social Evils Prevention, along with nearly 1,000 officials, civil servants, coaches, instructors, youth union members, and students from the local area.

With powerful messages delivered through slogans such as “Responding to the Action Month for Children,” “Join Hands to Prevent Child Injuries and Drowning,” “Learn to Swim for Better Health and Physical Development,” and “Everyone Participates in Preventing Child Drowning,” the Public Swimming Exercise Campaign for Drowning Prevention Among Children is a regularly held annual event organized by the province. It serves as an opportunity for all levels and sectors to promote the movement “The Entire Population Exercises Following the Great Uncle Ho’s Example,” to raise awareness about the benefits of swimming, to spread knowledge on water safety skills, and to encourage the public to actively practice swimming as a way to improve overall health, physical strength, and stature — thereby contributing to better learning, working, and productivity outcomes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Phu Yen – Chairman of the Binh Duong Provincial Aquatic Sports Federation – expressed his hope that departments and local authorities would continue to pay attention to and actively implement swimming and diving activities, as well as child drowning prevention initiatives. He especially emphasized the importance of organizing swimming lessons for children at local pools, encouraging organizations and individuals to invest in building swimming pools in communes, wards, and towns. He also recommended providing preferential policies, including waivers or reductions in pool rental fees and tuition for children, to create favorable conditions for children and students to learn and practice swimming.

At the same time, he requested that the Departments of Culture, Science, and Information in districts and cities regularly inspect the implementation of technical and safety regulations at swimming facilities and aquatic recreational areas. He also called for a review and early warning of safety risks to children in communities, particularly in areas with ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams.

Chị Mai, cư dân khu nhà phố Vườn Thiên Đàng, chia sẻ: “Gia đình tôi rất quan tâm đến việc học và thực hành bơi lội nhằm đảm bảo an toàn cho các con. Thường ngày, vợ chồng tôi vẫn đưa các con ra hồ bơi của khu để tập luyện. Hôm nay biết có chương trình phát động nên dẫn các con đến để vừa xem vừa học thêm kiến thức về phòng chống đuối nước. Tôi thấy đây là hoạt động rất thiết thực, nên tổ chức thường xuyên hơn”.
